Cary Learning was founded by Christina Ammerman to provide local families with a resource for guiding them through the complexities of the education system here in Wake County. Her background and qualifications include:

• Master’s Degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University
• Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Michigan
• Special Education Department Chair for Wake County Pubic Schools-High School and Middle School levels

Christina holds four North Carolina Highly Qualified Teaching Licenses:

• High School English 9 to 12
• Middle School Math 6 to 8
• Middle School Language Arts 6 to 8
• Special Education General Curriculum K to 12

Christina has twenty years experience in public and private education as a teacher and tutor, working with students and designing curriculum in special education, math and English. Her role as special education department chair in Wake County has helped her develop the skills vital to the entire evaluation process and the implementation of special education servicing for students with needs.

She is equally comfortable working with school faculty, outside psychologists and consultants, parents and students. Fostering successful collaboration among these stakeholders is a vital skill that helps her make the entire advocacy process more rewarding and efficient.

Her regular responsibilities currently include assisting case managers and families in resolving disputes regarding regular and special education issues. She has spearheaded parent-training sessions to educate parents on special education servicing options in within the Wake County Public School System, and to help them navigate regular and special education resources broadly.

Prior to her work in education, she worked as a senior paralegal in Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA. These positions required legal document editing and production, law interpretation and compliance, docket case monitoring, legal research, and collaboration with attorneys and clients. These skills are an invaluable foundation for managing the case files involved with special education compliance.
